How to delete Kwikset Premis code without deleting all codes?
You can only delete a single code from the lock without deleting all user codes. Below is the quick process to follow:
- Remove the battery cover.
- Press the program button a single time.
- Press the Kwikset Button a single time.
- Put the user codes you want to delete.
- Press the Kwikset button a single time.
- Enter the user codes again.
- Repress the Kwikset button a single time.

Kwikset Premis is jammed
You may get the jam error from your Premis lock for several reasons. Such as:
- The battery may be corrosion.
- The screws are over-tighten.
- The door handling process may not be properly performed during installation.
- Installation of the wrong deadbolt latch.
- The strike pocket of your door is not deep enough.
- The door hole is misaligned.
- The deadbolt latch and the door strike are misaligned.
What can you do to unjam your Premis lock?
Follow the below step to unjam your Kwikset Premis lock:
- Check if the batteries may be corrosion. If so, change or replace the batteries to avoid corrosion.
- Check if the mounting screws and bolt are over-tighten. If so, remove the interior subassembly, loosen the screws or bolts, and reinstall the bolts. Ensure it is not over-tighten.
- Perform the manual door-handing process for the Premis lock perfectly.
- If you install a wrong deadbolt latch, change it with a new tapered latch bolt. The Premis Lock actually accepts a new tap latch bolt.Â
So remove the old latch, and replace it with a new tampered latch bolt which you get with the Premis lock.
- The door strike pocket hole should be at least 1 inch deep.
- Check if the door hole is misaligned. If so, disassemble the Premis lock. Install it again without the adapter ring.
- Check if the deadbolt latch and strike are misaligned. If so, adjust the lower strike tab to align the upper latch and strike. So the latch bolt will enter the strike easily when it is in the locked position.
The Premis Lock touch screen is unresponsive
What can you do if your Premis Lock touchscreen is unresponsive when you command it?Â
Ok, don’t worry. Here is the process you can try to solve this issue.
But before that, let’s know why your touch screen is unresponsive:
- You may enter the wrong code within one minute.
- You may need a one-second pass.
- The battery is low or near dead.
How to fix this issue?
- If you enter the wrong passcode within one minute, your Premis Lock will sleep or lock for 60 seconds and become unresponsive to your command.Â
So, you need to reactivate the Premis lock after the lockout.
- When you lock or unlock your door, you need at least a one-second pass before reactivating the touchscreen.Â
To do this, remove your hand from the screen until the lock sign or checkmark turns off. Then try to reactivate the touchscreen.
- Check if the batteries are low or near dead. If so, replace them with new 4 AA non-rechargeable alkaline batteries.
- After completing the above step, try to activate the touchscreen by one of the following methods.
Method 1:
Use your palm or the back of your hand to touch the screen until the numbers light.
Method 2:
Find the Checkmark symbol in the lower left area of your Premis lock screen. Touch this area until the numbers flash.
Method 3:
Use three or more fingers to touch the lock screen until the digits flash.
Premis lock not available
If you see the error ‘lock not available’ message in your Premis App, you can perform the below tips to solve the problem.
- Check if the barcode is scanned correctly for HomeKit compatibility during the installation.Â
- Confirm the phone and the Premis Lock is within the Bluetooth range.
- Ensure the battery has enough power. To do this, you can replace or change the batteries with new batteries.
- You can toggle the settings of Bluetooth. If it’s not work, try to Power Cycle your phone to reset the settings of Bluetooth. To do this, turn off the phone. Then turn it on again.Â
- Reset the Premis lock to make it available.
Kwikset Premis door handing
You need to perform the door-handing process to teach the lock of the orientation of the door. So, follow the below step-by-step guide to performing the door-handing process:
- Remove the interior cover from the Premis lock.
- Take out the battery pack.
- Take out all four batteries at once.
- Replace the batteries with new 4 AA batteries.Â
- Ensure the correct polarity of the batteries.
- Ensure the door is open and unlocked.
- Insert the battery pack again.
- After a few moments, the latch bolt will begin to retract and extend to observe the door’s orientation. It is known as the door-handing process. It is essential for the lock operation.
- If successful, the lock screen will flash the checkmark symbol and a single column of numbers.
- If unsuccessful, the lock screen will flash an X pattern.
Kwikset Premis battery replacement
Do you want to replace your Premis battery? If yes, follow the below instructions:
- Remove the cover by sliding it slowly.
- Take out the battery pack from the Premis Lock.
- Take all four batteries at once.
- Replace the batteries with new non-rechargeable alkaline batteries. Ensure the correct polarity.

How do you lock/unlock Kwikset Premis lock?

Locking/unlocking Premis Lock with the Premis App:
The Premis App allows you to lock or unlock the door. In that case, consider two access methods. One is local access, and another is remote access.
Let’s see how you can lock or unlock the door through these processes:
Local access:
If your phone and Premis Lock are within Bluetooth range, you can try the Siri commands to lock or unlock your door. To do this,Â
- Keep your phone unlocked.
- Give the Guide to your Premis Lock by your assigned name in the Premis App.
- You will notice a symbol of your lock inside your Premis App. Tap on this to lock or unlock your door.
Remote access:
You may lock or unlock the door from far away if you have an Apple TV.Â
In that case, you should confirm to sign in to iCloud on your phone and Apple TV. Ensure you use the same Apple ID.
Locking/unlocking Premis Lock with the touchscreen:
You can lock or unlock your Premis door lock with the Kwikset Premis touchscreen. But you should enter one user code to unlock/lock the door. Otherwise, you can’t do that if you press the lock button.
Anyway, you need to activate your Premis touchscreen first. To do this,
Touch the screen with the palm or back of your hand, three or more fingers, and even touch the lower back checkmark area to activate the touchscreen.
Activation is complete.Â
Locking the door:
Now if you want to lock the door, follow the below instructions:
- Activate the Kwikset Premis screen.
- Press the lock icon once.
Unlocking the door:
- Activate the Kwikset Premis screen.
- If SecureScreenâ„¢ is enabled, you will see random digits on the screen. Touch that appearing random digits.
- Now enter the user code.
Note: in that moment, if you enter the incorrect user code, press once on the lock symbol to delete the added wrong code. Then quickly start the code entry procedure.
Kwikset Premis is Not locking
Your Kwikset Premis lock won’t lock ifÂ
- The Premis lock is jammed.
- You enter the wrong user code.
- No user codes are entered.
- Batteries are low or near dead.
How to fix this issue?
You can try the below tips to make your Premis lock able to lock/unlock again:
- Check if the Premis lock is jammed. If so, unjam it so the turnpiece can rotate smoothly and lock your door.
- Check if you enter the wrong user code on the screen. If so, press the lock symbol to delete the code, and enter the correct code again quickly to lock or unlock the door.
- You should enter at least one user code to activate the touchscreen and lock the door.Â
- Check if the batteries are low or near dead. If needed, replace the batteries with new ones.
Kwikset Premis App is not working to locate the Premis lock
If your Premis App doesn’t work and locate the lock, you can follow the below steps to solve the issue:
- You may only pair one phone to the Premis App or HomeKit. All other phones use the invite process to share access to the iCloud home.
- If your phone can’t locate your Premis lock while performing the initial pairing process, follow the below steps:
- First, erase any instances of your Premis lock from the Home option.
- Find the A button from the upper left corner of the Lock. Press the button only for 10 seconds to remove any initial pairings from your Lock.
- Start the Add Lock method from the Premis app. Now you can discover the Premis lock and complete the pairing process. Now your App may work perfectly to locate your lock.
The lock isn’t responding to the keypad
if the keypad on your Kwikset Premis smart lock isn’t responding, there could be several reasons. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you troubleshoot this issue:
Step 1: Check that the lock is powered on and that the batteries are fresh. Replace the batteries if they are low or dead.
Step 2: Make sure that the lock isn’t in vacation mode or privacy mode. These modes can disable the keypad. To turn off vacation mode, press and hold the Lock button for 5 seconds until you hear three beeps. To turn off privacy mode, enter your user code and then press the Lock button.
Step 3: Try resetting the lock. To do this, follow the same steps as in Step 4 above.
Step 4: If the keypad still isn’t working, you may need to replace it. Contact the manufacturer or a professional locksmith for assistance.
The lock symbols don’t lock the door:
If you press the Lock symbol before entering any user code on the screen, the Symbol doesn’t lock the door.
So, you must enter at least one user code on the Kwikset Premis screen. To lock the door,
- Activate the touchscreen.
- Enter your user codes on Premi’s screen.
- Now press the Lock Symbol to lock the door.
Changed batteries. The lock was sounding a good deal of the time. Once installed, no light, no evidence of power. Took apart and reinstalled twice. Still doesn’t work
