It’s easy installation, programming, and prominent features make it popular with its users. Even it is notable for having the features below:

• The Lock uses KW1, so SmartKey rekey is possible.
• It has a BHMA grade 2 certificate that ensures the safety and security of the homeowners.
• It has an auto-lock feature.
• Store up to 30 user codes.
• It uses 4 AA batteries that increase the battery life.

From the manufacturer’s manual, we will learn the installation and other instructions.

Kwikset 910 manual: Installation and setup

If you have a new Smart door lock for Kwikset 910, you need to install and set it up into your door. Its unique feature increases your home security level.

What tools will you need to install the Kwikset 910 deadbolt?

Before starting the installation process, you should collect the below instruments:

Ruler: 

You may need a ruler or tape measure when you install a new Smart lock in your door. It will confirm the latch is centred perfectly.

Phillips head screwdriver:

A Phillips head screwdriver is an essential instrument that you may need to unscrew any cross-shaped screws.

Let’s take some additional tools you need depending on your application.

Wood Block

If you have a hardwood floor, you may need a wood block. You can place it under the door as a protective pad while installing your Kwikset 910 lock.

Hammar

You may also collect the below instruments owing to any scratches. You may use the Hammer instead of the wood block if the door has an inner panel and require removing it.

How to install the Kwikset 910 deadbolt?

The installation process of the 910 Kwikset lock is easy to execute. Yet, you should read and follow the provided template if you are adjusting or drilling a new door.

Step 1: Remove the old deadbolt from your door

Do you already have an old deadbolt? Take a Phillips screwdriver and unscrew the screws that hold this lock in place. Then remove the existing hardware of the lock.

Note: You should remember the assembly of any mounting holes and screws. It will help you later when you place them again in that place.

Step 2: Prepare your door and check the dimensions

You need to prepare the door. To do this, 

1. Check if there is enough space in your door jamb for installation.

2. Insert the exterior keypad mounting plate on the outside of your door frame to interact with the internal assembly.

3. Then, you can check the dimension and measure the door from side to side or top to bottom of your door.

• Measure to confirm the door hole is either 2-⅛ or 1-½ inches (54 mm or 38 mm).
• Measure to ensure the door backset is either 2-⅜ (60 mm) or 2-¾ inch ( 70 mm).
• Measure to confirm the edge hole of the door is 1″ (25 mm).
• Measure to ensure your door thickness is between 1-⅜ inch and 2 inches (35 mm and 51 mm).

Step 2: Install the latch bolt and strike plate

Install the latch bolt through the door hole and the strike plate on the door edge. To do this,

1. Check if your door edge is chiseled. Use latch A if it is chiseled. Isn’t the door latch bolt extended? If so, open it as shown in the image below. 

But if the door latch bolt won’t be chiseled, use latch B( not included). 

2. Hold this latch bolt in front of your door hole, with the face of the latch flashing against the door edge.

3. Now place the latch and strike plates in its hole at the door frame edge. Then use a screw gun or a drill driver to install the screws.

Note: Ensure the door frame hole is drilled a minimum deep of 1 inch                                                                                                   (25mm).

Step 3: Install the mounting plate and exterior keypad 

You need the below screws in this step. So keep it handy now.

1. Insert the lock cylinder into the lock housing and secure it with its provided screws.

2. Install the touchscreen keypad and run the cable underneath the latch.

Set the mounting plate on the exterior keypad supporting the keypad.

Follow the further instructions from the image below and finish these steps.

To test the door latch, Insert the provided Key. If it doesn’t extend or retract smoothly, adjust the screws.

Take out this Key after it is completed, and confirm the latch bolt is entirely extended.

Step 4: Install the interior assembly

Insert the interior assembly onto the mounting plate and secure it. Follow the below steps to do this,

1. Remove the internal battery cover.

2. Take out the battery pack from the inner part of the Kwikset lock. Don’t install the batteries until the door handing process is performed.

3. Keep the turnpiece in a vertical position.

4. Connect the cable and ensure it is tightened. 

5. Lay the wire flat against the internal housing.

6. Push on the turnpiece shaft onto the torque blade.

7. Now secure the internal assembly with the provided screws.

Note: The turnpiece will not fairly rotate until you perform the door-handing process.

Step 5: Installing batteries and performing the door-handling process

To install the batteries and perform the door-handing process, follow the below instructions;

These steps and instructions will teach your Kwikset to lock the door’s orientation. It is obviously crucial to operate the lock perfectly.

Install batteries:

1. Insert 4 AA non-rechargeable batteries in the battery pack. Ensure the batteries are orientated in the correct polarity.

2. Ensure your door is open. Now, it’s time to insert the battery pack into the battery compartment. 

So, press and hold the lock button while inserting the battery pack. Keep holding the lock button until the latch bolt of the door lock moves on its own.

Execute the door-handing process:

Check if the latch bolt retracts and extends while installing the battery pack. 

If yes, the handing process is successful. You may now jump to your next steps after the latch bolt pauses moving.

If not, take out the battery pack and stay for only 15 seconds. Now try the process again.

Step 6: Pair the Kwikset lock with the Smart Home System.

Now, you need to add your Kwikset Locks to the Smart Home system. In that case, read and follow carefully the instructions from the following image to pair it to the Smart Home System.

If the pairing process is successful, rename the lock in your Smart Home System ( if applicable).

If unsuccessful, follow your system’s instructions and remove the lock or any network from the controller.

Then press the A button a single time.

Execute the above step again.

If still the process is unsuccessful, contact a professional locksmith.

Step 7: Add the user code(30max)

You can add or delete all the codes through your Smart Home system. If the System doesn’t allow this, these codes may be paired directly to your Lock.

When you perform this process, you must press the button quickly. If you don’t press any button for 5 seconds, the programming system will time out. 

Then you will need to restart the process again. Anyway, let’s start the process:

1. Keep your door open.
2. Click on the Program button the number of times related to the user code position being programmed.

3. Type the user code you wish. You may program a total of 30 user codes. 

Keep the user code unique between 4 to 8 digits. It will depend on your Smart home system.

4. Click on the lock button a single time.

5. If successful, you will notice a green flash with one beeping sound.

6. If unsuccessful, you will notice three red flashes with three beeps.

7. If the programming is time out, you will hear two beeps.

Step 8: Test the 910 lock

Check to test if your door lock is unlocked by entering the user code you have already set. 

To do this, follow the below instructions to unlock/open the door lock.

Unlocking the door:

You may click the lock button to wake the keypad light at night. Then type your user code to unlock the door.

Locking the door:

Click on the lock button a single time.

Step 9: Install the interior cover

Finally, install the interior cover on the Kwikset Lock and secure it with screws.

How to factory reset on Kwikset SmartCode 910?

The kwikset smart lock reset will delete all the user codes, even the master code, and any network settings from your Kwikset SmartCode 910. It will also remove the lock from your Smart home system.

The factory resetting process of Kwikset 910 is almost similar to the SmartCode 916. So just follow the above resetting process to perform it for your Kwikset Smart Lock 910.

How to rekey the Kwikset Smart Lock 910 with z-wave technology?

Kwikset 910 Smart lock has the KW1 and is featured with the SmartKey Security system. So it is possible to rekey the Kwikset 910 deadbolt efficiently. 

So how can you execute the rekeying process? Don’t worry.

Actually, all the Kwikset locks with Z-wave technology are featured with the SmartKey Security system. It offers a similar rekeying process. 

So you can obviously follow and perform the instructions to rekey your Kwikset z wave lock.
